I’m still new to App Development but quickly learning that planning and preparation is a key ingredient to having a successful App. I also believe that if you’re working hard… you might as well work smart, which means using Sensor Tower.
I love stats, graphs, analytics, etc… all that stuff. So you know I’ve experimented with several App Marketing tools. They’re all insightful but Sensor Tower fits my eye and makes the most sense for what I’m trying to accomplish.
Keyword Research is where Sensor Tower shines. I love how it measures the ranking difficulty for iPhone & iPad separately and includes the total number of Apps using your potential word. You’ll see your competition on the same screen and can even use the Spy to check their words, which is a great way to brainstorm other keyword options.
Everyone should pick their keywords wisely, as an indie developer I feel like it’s even more important to get the most benefit from every single one of them. As you can see ranking in the top 20 apps for “dragon” would be very difficult, so I use the keyword research feature to build a list of words/terms that my app can rank for at launch.
The Optimization Tool is where I make the final decision on what words to use. Plug in your keyword list and compare them all in one place, sorted by difficulty, traffic or competition. The character count may seem like no big deal, but it saves a lot of time for me.
The Translation Module is great for checking duplicate words in all your targeted languages and maximizing the amount of words you’re putting into localization campaigns. In my most recent app I eliminated 8 duplicate words and added more than 30 “bonus” words due to unused characters in various languages. You can also fine tune your keywords in a particularly language when the characters overflow.
I learn more and more each day by watching the fluctuations in my keyword ranks. It’s easy to get a feel for how quickly you can move up or down if you simply spend a few minutes each day exploring the site. You’ll be able to maximize burst campaign at appropriate times when you’re tuned into to what’s actually going on day to day.
Finally, there are two other key ingredients to why I recommend trying Sensor Tower.
- I ran into a problem trying to integrate with my iTunes Connect and contacted customer service by email. I got a thorough response in less than 24hrs which included steps to resolving the problem. Turns out… the problem was self inflicted, but the point is – I was impressed with the response.
- The Sensor Tower Blog is a great resource for information, from using the various tools to a whole host of how-to/best practices of app marketing.
Good luck with your apps.
